Our planet is in a climate emergency caused by human activity
At Language Tree, we are working hard to ensure everything we do at the school is done in a way to minimise the environmental damage and effect we have on the world.
We want to leave the world in a better place than how we found it.
Here are some examples of what we are doing...

Recycling, upcycling & sustainable
Course booksBy providing all students with a course book, we are reducing the need for photocopying materials in class.
We hope students will keep and use their course books in the future too. We also source, clean second hand course books for all our courses where possible. |
Ink recyclingSometimes our teachers need to print extra materials for our classes, or we make posters to promote local events for our students to get involved in.
In order to facilitate this, we subscribe to the HP Instant Ink programme where all ink cartridges are sent back to HP to be refilled and reused.. |
Paper recyclingWe only use sustainable, recycled paper at Language Tree.
We also provide recycling facilities for paper (as well as card, glass, plastics and metals). The bins are clearly labelled with posters showing exactly what can go into each bin. |
Free refreshments
In all our classes we offer free tea, coffee, water and light refreshments.
We love doing this! Break time is a great time for a relaxed chat trying out the new language we have been practising in class.
We also know that by offering free refreshments, this means you don't need to go to the coffee shop to buy a take-away coffee.

Sustainable excursions & activities
Coast walksOne of our favourite excursions is to take students on to the South West Coast Path.
This wonderful free activity is such a great way to meet people, socialise and explore Cornwall in an environmentally responsible way. |
Public transportOur school is situated in the centre of Truro, the capital city of Cornwall.
As a public transport hub, it is easy for our students to get to Language Tree from all over Cornwall on public transport. |
eco educationWith places like the Eden Project on our doorstep, environmental education is at the core of Cornish life and identity.
We strive to ensure all our excursions and activities are fun, educational and sustainable. |
Supporting Beach Guardian
Beach Guardian is a fantastic charity based in Cornwall focused on cleaning our wonderful coastal environment and educating people about the issues associated with plastic waste in our marine environment.
Whenever we can, we take our student groups on beach cleans with
Beach Guardian. Click here to find out more about this amazing organisation.
